Linwood Shopping Center

After years of vacancy and blight, Linwood Shopping Center is a commercial-retail center that included demolishing a previous 10-year vacant grocery store and adding a newly renovated Lipari Brothers Sun Fresh grocery store amongst other retail shops. The project features fresh, contemporary interior and exterior architectural design elements, as well as site improvements including surface parking and enhanced landscaping.

Taliaferro & Browne provided civil engineering, structural engineering, and special inspection services for the project. Civil engineering responsibilities included preparation of construction plans for site demolition, site grading, site utility design, erosion control & disturbance plans, truck turning analysis, new water and sewer service connections, parking lot repairs, pre-bid meetings, shop drawing review, construction site visits and preparation of technical specifications.

Structural engineering responsibilities included analysis and design of the new store structure in place of the demolished store and between the adjacent buildings. The structural system consists of concrete footings, masonry walls, metal roof and joists, as well as structural steel framing for the mezzanine and entry area. Our structural team was fully responsible for preparing construction documents and providing construction administration services for this project.

Special inspection services included inspecting the placement of reinforcing steel and concrete, bolts in reinforced concrete, high strength bolting, structural welding and steel framing, structural masonry, post-installed anchors, architectural components, and post tensioning systems.
